Things we are loving right now

A curated look at what's inspiring us this month — from design ideas to objects worth owning.

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what timeless design means and what are the elements that embody that goal.

Things have changed so much in this business with the addition of social media which was not the driving marketing source when the business was first started.

Think back to the times we carted along a photo portfolio to show potential clients. Seems like a lifetime ago but that is how I started.

Now, we have an almost never-ending visual source of inspiration sitting right at our and our client’s fingertips. We find that the vast, yet highly specific algorithms behind these platforms often produce a visual smorgasbord that is often more confusing than clarifying.

For us, as a firm, we start with the triad of the house/setting, the client’s vision and our own hand to create the aesthetic curation to create that big picture vision. This combination is always exciting as each client and home are so radically different.

Where thoughtful
design comes to life.

Next, we expand on getting clear on exactly where we are trying to go. The first question is what is the goal. Is this your forever home, second home or investment property. What it is, will help determine scope, goals and budget.

Then we start thinking about the client and how they live and want to function in the space. What is working, what is not.

And, probably most importantly, how do you want the home to feel. The feeling that we are trying to create is the leader in guiding the many aesthetic choices. Once we are clear on what this project is for the client, how they want to live, function and feel within the space, we start to gather inspirational images to create the blueprint for the design.

That design is tested against three elements:

01
Honor the architecture
A renovation should build on what is best about a house — the best version of the home already there.
02
Connect to the setting
In our climate especially, the flow from outside in — and the view back out — makes a home feel grounded.
03
Support how you live
Every selection comes back to one question: does it serve how you want to live and feel at home?

Not getting caught up in what the algorithms want to show you can be hard, but if you want a timeless home, one wants to not pick design elements that are saturating social media feeds.

Steer clear of that, as saturation is likely to end up being dated down the road.

Behind the Scenes: Design in Progress

We finalized construction on our mid-century modern project on the golf course this week. It was bittersweet to do the final walk through with our clients, as the cleaners were shining it all up.

We love seeing the transformation become reality but seeing the team pack up and having the weekly communication with great clients end, hits my heart.

Design News

We have a bit of exciting news to share. We are expanding our office and creating a small showroom space. This has been in the works for a bit but we are just starting to work on the build out.

We will have more space to show our clients and the community what we are all about. Stay tuned for more information as we create our new space.

Until next month

Cheers!
